North Carolina Archives Week

October 5, 2010

It’s North Carolina Archives Week! This event promotes and celebrates the work of archives and archivists throughout the state. This year’s theme is Archives Week 2010: Connecting You to the Past.

The focus Archives Week is on genealogy this year, and many repositories in the state have wonderful materials and resources to get you started on the journey into your family’s past.  North Carolina Family Records Online is a terrific resource brought to you by the North Carolina State Library and State Archives. The State Library also has a great guide to beginning your genealogical research.

Atkins Library Special Collections holds collections and materials that can help researchers in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area learn more about their heritage. Many of our manuscript collections feature correspondence, diaries, and other documents from area families. The New South Voices oral history project provides access to over 800 audio recordings and transcripts of interviews, narratives and conversations with Charlotteans and others from the Piedmont.

Wherever you are, your local archives, libraries, historical societies, and museums have materials and (most importantly) people who love to help  researchers discover new information that matters to them. Go forth and find your past!
